I know that in the beginning of the year, rompers became quite a popular trend. The styles ranged from casual to quite elegant with prices ranging from affordable to something only celebrities could afford. Instead of buying any rompers, where I could have the exact same one as someone else in the world, I decided to change some of my old dresses into them. Many of the dresses were sundress like and hand-me-downs that I just never wore. I thought instead of throwing away the dresses, I could just add to my wardrobe! Here’s a tutorial about how to turn a dress into a romper!!
Materials:
Dress- I found this works best with sundresses that have a little bit of a skirt. This won’t work with tight fitting dresses because there is not enough fabric for the shorts. To test if there is enough fabric, lay down two shorts on either side of the skirt. If it fits, then it will be easy to create the romper.
Scissors- Any kind of scissors work. It is best to have 2 different scissors, 1 for fabric and another for paper, string, or anything else.
Pins- Pins are important for keeping fabric together. It helps it stay in the place you want when sewing.
Marking tool- It could be fabric chalk or pencil. Fabric chalk is good because it will come out in the wash. If worse comes to worse, you could use a coloured pencil lightly on the WRONG SIDE of the fabric.
Shorts- Any kinds of shorts can be used for a template.
Thread- The thread must be the same colour as the fabric. That way it won’t be seen as easily.
